Welcome to the 34th edition of PT Aware! As we step into April 2025, we turn our lens toward a fascinating and often overlooked species—the Black Grouse. Known for their striking plumage and dramatic courtship displays, these birds are a symbol of the delicate balance within moorland and woodland-edge habitats.

This edition dives into the life cycle of the Black Grouse, from their elaborate “lekking” rituals to the survival struggles of chicks in fragmented landscapes. Although their numbers remain stable in a few regions, many populations face a steady decline due to habitat loss, climate change, and human disturbance.

Through powerful photography and thoughtful storytelling, we hope to shed light on the challenges faced by this remarkable species and explore solutions that can support their future.

Thank you for being part of our journey. Let’s continue to learn, appreciate, and protect the wild together.

Sincerely,
Hermis Haridas & Nisha Purushothaman
