In this edition of PT Aware, we spotlight the Black Grouse—an iconic species known for its dramatic lekking displays, where males gather to perform elaborate rituals to attract females. While this behavior is well-documented, the exact cues females use to choose a mate remain a mystery.

Despite their numbers, Black Grouse populations face threats from habitat loss, modern farming, and fencing. Some regions have seen steep declines, while others fare better.

Dr. Peter Hudson brings a wealth of knowledge in this feature, drawn from countless hours observing these birds in the wild. He dives into their biology, behavior, and shares valuable tips for photographing them responsibly. A big thanks Dr Peter for contributing his stunning images. At Paws Trails, we’re committed to sharing powerful stories from the world of science, conservation, and wildlife photography.

Stay tuned—our next edition will focus on Bat-eared fox. We invite you to contribute your best Bat-eared fox images!
